Veasna is a Grade 12 student in Saint-John-Baptist-Center. He is a volunteer in our library and wishes to become a lawyer to defend the rights of the unjustly treated poor. In the top photo, wearing a CVO T-shirt, he is talking during International Human Rights Day. The second photo has been taken during International Children’s Day, when Vaesna took in charge all the organization and animation of that day at our Library of happiness. In fact, his family is one of the victims of land grabbing which is a wildly widespread problem in Cambodia. Vaesna’s mother is the leader of the local village group fighting against this terrible situation. It is not a small issue for them because if they lose their land, they lose everything. Trade Union Leaders, environmental activists, and anti-land-grabbing activists are very brave people considered as heroes by many of their peers.
